What it is and what to do
The recall files show what that shared piece can be: a module that stops talking to the others, an alternator, or a corroded connector. Honda's 20V-771 updated body control module software on some 2018 to 2020 Accords and 2019 and 2020 Insights, where dropped communication could knock out the wipers, defroster, backup camera, exterior lights and power windows. Chrysler's 14V-634 replaced alternators on some 3.6L Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models because a sudden failure could stall the car. Nissan's 22V-024 replaced under-dash connectors on some 2014 to 2016 Rogues that corroded from water and road salt, which could turn on the all-wheel-drive light and drain the battery.
That Accord recall matters here, because the 2018 Accord is one of the top three vehicles on this sheet (with the 2017 Jeep Cherokee and the 2017 Honda CR-V). Across about 6,100 complaints on the vehicles covered here, the median mileage owners give is about 40,000. Four in ten mention it happening while driving, and around three in ten mention a restart or the lights going away. Where owners name a part, the battery comes up more than anything else.
Firestone calls a professional diagnostic scan the best next step when warning lights come on, and with this many lights the whole set of stored codes is worth having. After that the recalls point at the battery and charging system, then connectors. Firestone's advice on a red battery or charging light is blunt: the car is running on borrowed time, so get the battery and alternator tested before you're stranded.
Colors matter. Firestone's rule of thumb is that amber means attend to it soon and red means stop and assess, with a flashing red light the most serious. If the car loses power, the steering goes heavy, the brake light is on or the temperature gauge climbs, pull over.
Photograph the dash while the lights are on; they may be gone by the time you reach the service desk. Note whether the car had just started, was in rain or had just been washed. Check NHTSA's recall lookup with the VIN, and report it during the warranty; the FTC says a defect reported in that window must be fixed even if the warranty expires first.
