Misfire on other Grand Cherokee years

Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2016, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026.

What this problem usually is

These reports start with the check engine light. Many describe the engine running rough or shaking at idle, a P0300-series code, or a catalytic converter code. A worrying number say the light was flashing. Owners often list ignition coils or spark plugs already replaced, and the light coming back afterward.

Is this a known problem?

The manufacturer has sent NHTSA 11 service bulletins or notices for the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that deal with this problem. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

What owners wrote

“The 3.6L engine has a misfire and that problem was addressed by replacing the following new plugs, coilpacks, injector, plenum gaskets and it ended up being the rocker arms or cam shaft This has to be address as it is a wide problem with EVERY one of these engines.”

Filed Aug 5, 2025

“The left bank intake camshaft and roller rockers have failed. It has cause the check engine light to come on and go off reading a misfire in cylinder 2. After costly repairs to coil packs and plugs, Chrysler is now going to replace with a cost of $1,900.00. This is the same issue in the 2013 Jeep that Chrysler extended the warranty on and won’t do it now on this year model.”

Filed Jul 24, 2023

“Jeep shifts into neutral while driving and Jeep also loses power while driving on the highway! The check engine light would come on and then go off, and stay off. Transmission or Engine possibly.”

“Codes P06DD, P0456, P0306. mechanic said new motor is needed as there is a bad lifter, losing oil pressure and other issues. i have 133000 miles on my car. after further research, many other people with the Pentastar V6 engine have the same issues. a lawsuit was filed previously.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 2 of 95 reports involved a crash and 1 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
