What this problem usually is
These reports start with the check engine light. Many describe the engine running rough or shaking at idle, a P0300-series code, or a catalytic converter code. A worrying number say the light was flashing. Owners often list ignition coils or spark plugs already replaced, and the light coming back afterward.

The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.
A high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure may introduce internal debris into the fuel system, potentially resulting in fuel starvation.
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may crack and allow pre-heated vaporized coolant to enter the EGR system. This mixture may combust inside the intake manifold.
The instrument cluster may not properly illuminate driver warnings. As such, these vehicles fails to conform with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."
Due to an incorrect assembly repair process, the auxiliary battery wire terminal connection may overheat.

“I brought my truck in because the check engine light was on. My mechanic first replaced the oil pressure sensor, but the check engine light came back on. The oil pressure is low, and the oil pump is the problem. I only have 62,000 miles on the truck, and have kept up with oil changes and maintenance.”

“I was at a stop light and I got a warning light and a check engine light that said service shifter. After that, it wouldnât shift gears and I was stuck in 1st gear. I pulled over and got a service tire pressure light, 4WD temporary unavailable light, service airbag light, ESC light, parking light. The vehicle was also sputtering and the cooling fan came on full force.”
