What this problem usually is
This is the biggest drivetrain group on the site: a transmission that shudders, slips, hesitates or bangs into gear. It's the everyday version of transmission trouble, where the car still drives but doesn't drive right, and it has three narrower sheets of its own for jerking, hesitation and slipping.

“The transmission has been slipping on multiple occasions between 3rd and 4th gear, changing gears very harshly and sometimes forcing the vehicle to speed up rapidly and unexpectedly. It has also caused the vehicle to slow down rapidly, trying to find a certain gear then shifting back down to 1st gear randomly while driving in traffic. I barely have 70,000 miles on the truck.”

“Transmission is slipping , it started at about 65,000 miles, just after the warrAnty expired on this. This is a known problem with the 10 speed transmission. Despite this being a known problem Ford will not, assist financially to repair this unit”

“Transmission has Almost failed and is exhibiting jerking, thud sounds, and causing small whip lash affects. Transmission was serviced a year ago and "reprogrammed" the timing. The last month the transmission started experiencing hard shifting, jerking and missing gears. I took it into the dealer again to diagnose and was told I will need a new transmission at 140k miles.”
