Transmission shudder on other F-150 years
Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026.
What this problem usually is
This is the biggest drivetrain group on the site: a transmission that shudders, slips, hesitates or bangs into gear. It's the everyday version of transmission trouble, where the car still drives but doesn't drive right, and it has three narrower sheets of its own for jerking, hesitation and slipping.
What got replaced
Owners who name the part that was replaced mention the clutch (5 reports).
Recalls and investigations
4 recalls on the transmission and drivetrain cover the 2022 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
The rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can result in damage to the axle hub splines.
The transmission may contain a loose bolt which could prevent the transmission from engaging the park gear, although the gear shifter position may indicate that the vehicle has been shifted to "PARK."
Underbody heat and noise insulators may loosen and contact the aluminum driveshaft, which could damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture.

Is this a known problem?
The manufacturer has sent NHTSA 18 service bulletins or notices for the 2022 Ford F-150 that deal with this problem. Newest first.
Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

What owners wrote
“Vehicle has hard and clunky down shifts from 4th to 3rd gear and occasional hard clunk 3rd to first. Occasionally lurches coming to a stop. Happens frequently and somewhat inconsistently since purchased. Creates drivability concerns when slowing.”

“Hard shifts from 10R80 Transmission in 2022 f150, Iâve had a lot of hard shifts especially in lower gears, clunking sounds and skipping gears every so often, the 10R80 transmission should be recalled in all fords and have the updated parts in them, it is unacceptable to have these kind of trucks transmission failing at 70,000 miles. There is tons of people complaining about this. Thank you”

“My truck has harsh shifting and gets to 3,000 RPM sometimes before it shifts. There is a loud rattle when my car is low acceleration or deceleration when coming to a stop.”

“CDF drum failed, caused lurching and sporadic speeds on highway while traveling. Transmission was low on fluid from factory and was remedied - possibly led to premature wear on the transmission that ultimately failed.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 1 of 36 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation. How reports land on this sheet.
