Drops into neutral on other F-150 years

Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026.

What this problem usually is

What owners wrote

“My transmission suffered the CDF drum failure which resulted in it downshifting into first gear while doing over 55 mph. The failure was confirmed by the Ford Dealership after taking it in. The truck now needs a $9000 transmission replacement to replace the drum and clutches that were destroyed.”

Filed Feb 26, 2025

“I came off of an exit ramp, when I hit the gas, the truck went to neutral and motor reved up. I pulled off to the side of the road for a few seconds and the truck went back into gear. The truck also has a hard time going into 10th gear. It has reved up and a wrench has popped up in my dash.”

Filed Nov 19, 2024

“When driving on the highway going any speed. The car feels like it goes into neutral and the rpm goes up while I’m going to the speed limit but the car just cruises and it won’t pick up speed. Then it feels like it communicates again and it starts to work”

“10 speed Transmission bucks and jams when accelerating and bangs down shifting unexpectedly, creates an unsafe feeling with this action”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 84 reports involved a crash and 1 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
