Stalling on other F-150 years
Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2024, 2025, 2026.
What this problem usually is
Stalling reports are some of the most alarming on the site. The engine quits while the car is moving, sometimes on a highway and sometimes at a stop. Many owners say it restarted right away and the dealer found no stored code, which is part of why these complaints pile up before anything gets fixed.
What got replaced
Owners who name the part that was replaced mention the battery (6 reports), the throttle body (3 reports) and the ignition coil or plugs (3 reports).
Recalls and investigations
7 recalls on the transmission and drivetrain cover the 2017 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
The instrument cluster may lose power after initial vehicle start-up in cold ambient temperatures. Several gauges, including the transmission gear position indicator, may not illuminate.
A loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into second gear.
During the previous repair, the block heater cable's splice connector may have been damaged.
Water and contaminants may get into the block heater cable's splice connector causing corrosion and damage.
A roll pin may not have been installed in the transmission, potentially causing a loss of the "Park" function.
The pin that attaches the transmission shift linkage to the transmission may come out, preventing the transmission from responding to movement of the shift lever.
In these vehicles, the instrument cluster may lose power after the initial vehicle start-up in cold ambient temperatures. Several gauges, including the transmission gear position indicator, may not illuminate.

Is this a known problem?
The manufacturer has sent NHTSA 4 service bulletins or notices for the 2017 Ford F-150 that deal with this problem. Newest first.

“Timing system failed at 73,000 miles causing engine stall loosing power brakes and control.”

“Rear view camera shuts off intermittently or shows a degraded image while backing up which creates a safety hazard because I almost crash into objects or other vehicles due to limited visibility.”

“Random downshift, loss of engine power, then power comes back at high RPMs then truck recovers. This has happened 3 times. Today, I was driving at approximately 55mph, with no throttle variation, the truck lost power and downshifted. Whatever gear it found it was enough to bark the tires.”
Filed Apr 29, 2024
“When the auto start/stop function kicks back on at a stop light, it often causes the truck to lurch forward suddenly. Then, it occasionally cuts out, momentarily stalling the vehicle in the middle of the intersection. After a couple of seconds, it re-engages and takes off. The lurching is jarring and potentially harmful; stalling in an intersection is dangerous.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 0 of 99 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation. How reports land on this sheet.
