Recalls and investigations
One recall on the engine covers the 2018 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, 2019 Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT vehicles. The power supply cables at the starter and the alternator may not have been properly secured, possibly resulting in an electrical arc.
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the alternator and starter motor power supply cables to verify that they are properly secured, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began September 26, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S25.

What owners wrote
“Coolant intrusion into the cylinder. This is a known issue by Ford for a 2018 Edge. The repair calls for replacement of the long block assembly. Since this is a known issue, Ford needs to issue a recall for full replacement, even after warranty expires. This vehicle currently has 74,000 miles.”

“Coolant leaking into the cylinders. Repair is a new engine block. Nothing can be done to prevent it. Ford even has a technical service bulletin about the problem but have not recalled the vehicle for the issue. Car has only 82000 miles and is a 2018 and now having to pay for a new engine.”

“Ford Dealership did an inspection due to check engine light being on and found Ford Edge 2018 needs a new engine due to coolant leaking into cylinders and pistons failing. The 2018 Ford Edge has 83,000 miles on it and is 5 years old and no longer under warranty.”

“The check engine light came on. The warning was a cylinder 2 misfire. The fix is an engine replacement. I called Ford. They acknowledged a coolant leakage problem. They said there was no recall but would offer "assistance". I was told to limit driving until repair as the engine will stall at any time. This problem happened shy of 68,000 miles (shortly after warranty expiration).”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 1 of 467 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
