Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

“The engine runs rough condition, Check Engine Light will illuminate and white exhaust smoke coming out from the tail pipe. It exibits a high consumption of coolant. Possible cause is due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder which triggers a misfire. Driving it into the free is very dangerous if you car will stall in the middle and could cause an accident.”

“The flex plate on the vehicle has broken twice within 10000 miles. This is most certainly a manufacturer defect. The vehicle then runs rough, has a loss of power along with transmission shifting issues and can nearly die or not accelerate properly while driving, leading to several near collisions which could result serious injury or death.”

“Loss of power, car dies while driving down the road. There is no warning and it is completely random, but has happened several times putting me in very dangerous situations. The last time it happened was May 31, 2021”
