What this problem usually is
Two different complaints land here. The more common one is an engine that uses oil: owners add a quart between changes, get a low-oil warning, or are told by the dealer that the rate is normal. The other is the opposite, where the oil level climbs and the oil smells of gasoline. Both deserve a proper test, and both are easier to argue with records in hand.

“This car has major oil consumption that affects the engine and catalytic converter. This can cause engine damage and stalls in driving that affect safety on the roads because the car doesn't accelerate properly. There were no warning signals to indicate this being a problem with the car, especially at purchase. This car will get an oil change and in less than a week, the oil is gone and bone dry.”

“Despite proper maintenance, at 100k miles the engine started knocking aggressively and the dealership advised me not to drive it or it would throw a rod in the very near future. It started burning oil around 80k miles. This is the Limited model with the gamma engine that was not included in the recalls of the other Tuscon engine, but seems to have the same problem.”
