2024 ford maverick hybrid intermittent loss of braking. Open.

NHTSA summary
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition on July 20, 2026, which was dated July 7, 2026, requesting a defect investigation into the intermittent loss of braking on Model Year (MY) 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid vehicles. The petition alleges intermittent loss of antilock and regenerative braking associated with certain fault codes that led to a collision event. The petitioner highlights that the condition persisted through four repair attempts and over 50 days out of service. Furthermore, the petition alleges that MY 2024 was improperly excluded from related Ford brake-control software recalls. This defect petition has been opened to evaluate whether to grant or deny the petition. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI number 11751762.

None of these investigations covers the 2022 model year.

What owners wrote

“Sometimes when coming to a full stop and when moving slow and braking in parking lots the brakes seem to not fully engage and then at the last second they grab hard to stop the truck. I can see this as being potentially hazardous ,especially in a parking lot or when conditions are slippery.”

Filed Aug 10, 2022

“At low speeds the brakes would jerk violently. Pressure on the brakes would change making seem like the car will not stop at times.”

Filed Jul 19, 2022

“I just wanted to share that my Maverick intermittently makes a hard clunking stop during low speed stop and go conditions. It also takes more brake pressure to stop as the truck feels like it’s trying to lunge forward. This occasional happens when parking the truck as well.”

Filed Jul 18, 2022

“Brakes seem to be reluctant to react to pressure on brake pedal at low speeds, like slowly rolling forward, and eventually a higher pressure is needed and an abrupt stop occurs. Also on a slippery road some abrupt stopping occured in a similar manner.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 2 of 97 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
