NHTSA summary
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition on July 20, 2026, which was dated July 7, 2026, requesting a defect investigation into the intermittent loss of braking on Model Year (MY) 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid vehicles. The petition alleges intermittent loss of antilock and regenerative braking associated with certain fault codes that led to a collision event. The petitioner highlights that the condition persisted through four repair attempts and over 50 days out of service. Furthermore, the petition alleges that MY 2024 was improperly excluded from related Ford brake-control software recalls. This defect petition has been opened to evaluate whether to grant or deny the petition. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI number 11751762.

None of these investigations covers the 2023 model year.

What owners wrote

“The Ford Maverick has a known issue with "grabby brakes." I recently took my vehicle in for service and was advised the vehicle had an outstanding service bulletin to solve this problem. The repair given by Ford is ineffectual. There is a potential problems, even at low speeds, for sudden braking and collisions. This is ongoing at every stop and experienced by other Maverick owners.”

“Brakes are very "grabby" and lurchy at low speeds. sometimes it starts to shudder”

Filed Apr 30, 2025

“Regenerative braking system is not in sync with traditional braking system at low speeds. Braking will studder and cause the truck to jump as it brakes to a stop.”

Filed Apr 10, 2024

“Brakes surge shortly after startup causing vehicle to lunge forward multiple times when at a stop. Has happened multiple times since getting vehicle new with less than 4500 miles. No warning lights has not been inspected by dealership but many other people have mentioned this happens to them frequently on Ford Maverick truck forums.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 32 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
