Recalls and investigations

One recall on the airbags covers the 2015 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.

Air Bags:Sensor:Occupant Classification

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chrysler 200 vehicles manufactured April 7, 2014, to August 3, 2015. During service work, the affected vehicles may have had either the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) or the Seat Cushion Foam (SCF) of the front passenger seat replaced instead of the both pieces together, which make up a complete calibrated set.

Risk and remedy
Risk: If both pieces were not replaced together, the occupant detection and classification system may not be properly calibrated and the passenger air bag may improperly deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a new OCM-SCF seat service kit, free of charge. The recall began on May 27, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S09.

“While driving the car on the highway it completely shut off and would not start. My dashboard is black and flashes. This could have been worse and put our life at risk. I have had so many issues on this car ever since I purchased it. I have taken it to a shop before and this will be my third time.”

“Chrysler/fiat has issued a TSB recommending the wiring harness inside seat to be replaced. This should be a safety recall not a TSB since it has to do with airbags. It's a safety hazard. This needs to be done before someone is seriously injured or dies.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 38 of 327 reports involved a crash and 31 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
