Recalls and investigations
One recall on the seats covers the 2017 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Nissan Rogue vehicles. The recliner joints on the lower seat frame for the rear seats may have improper welds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems," and 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat frames and replace any defective lower seat frames, free of charge. The recall began December 6, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
When it happens
The middle half of failures fell between 17,000 and 48,000 miles, from the 22 reports that gave a mileage.
What owners wrote
“Door/curtain airbags deployed suddenly without an accident and caused seatbelt to lock.”

“Passenger air bag lite does not detect person in seat. Have seen this recall but told by vin number doesn't qualify even though it is same problem. $3100 to fix”
Filed Mar 4, 2024
“Passenger airbag sensor defective and doesn't work. Driver side seat is loose. These are safety issues and I shouldn't have to pay $3k to have them fixed especially when other 2017 rogues have had recalls for same problems, just different lots. Can't afford to fix and can't buy something new.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 3 of 38 reports involved a crash and 4 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
