Recalls and investigations

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.
Risk and remedy
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212330040.

“The whole tension rod of driver side seatbelt ripped off. Recall was issued I took to get done afterwards the seatbelt tension rod broke. I called dealer and Chevy and they say well we did the recall tuff luck! They knew it was about to break or almost broken and did nothing and gave me my truck back unsafe. I canât use my car due to no seatbelt on driver side and they wonât own to their error.”

“The cable that attaches the driver seat belt to the base of the seat broke while I was sitting in the vehicle driving. Truck has been well cared for and this seems like a major safety issue since the seatbelt has been ineffective for who knows how long at this point. Online recall tool indicates I have 0 open recalls too. Thank you!”

“Seat belt tensioner cable broke, N212330040 is a current recall for the same problem, reached out to local dealer and gm customer care about my vehicle. They stated that my vehicle was not affected by that recall. Can send pictures is necessary.”
