Recalls and investigations
One recall on the transmission and drivetrain covers the 2024 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Lexus LX600, and 2023-2024 Sequoia Hybrid vehicles. Unexpected vehicle movement may occur when the vehicle is in neutral and the brakes are not applied.
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Dealers will update the transmission control ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2024. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TA02 and 24LA02.
When it happens
Too few of these reports state a mileage to give a range.
What owners wrote
“There is a severe throttle lag that is random. It has caused near collisions due to the response time. The truck will also randomly jerk forward. I reported it to dealer and they said it was normal and to drive the truck in sport mode. This not a solution and will cause an accident if not resolved soon”

“When I shift out of N or P into drive there is loud and aggressive clunk. Like the tranny is gonna drop out the bottom! Itâs a tight grip, the shifter doesnât want to move. Potential to run someone in a car park or walking down the sidewalk.”

“The vehicle has acceleration hesitation. Sometimes when trying to go from a complete stop the vehicle is almost dead and doesnât move then it feels as if the âclutch was popped â in a manual but it is an automatic.”

“Anytime I come to a yield/traffic circle and do not have to come to a complete stop, when I push the accelerator there is a hesitation and then the truck lurches forward. It happens quite often when I slow down to 5mph give or take before accelerating again. I would estimate it has happened 50 times since I have owned the truck which I bought with 300 miles on it.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 0 of 33 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
