What this problem usually is
Screen complaints read like a list of small betrayals. The display goes black or freezes, the backup camera shows nothing when you shift into reverse, CarPlay or Android Auto keeps dropping, or the radio changes volume on its own. TT: Some customers may experience an abnormal steering sensation (?pulling?, ?drifting?), which may be more pronounced after a cold soak. The steering angle value displayed in Techstream may be greater than +3° off when the steering wheel is held straight.

“Air coolant bypass valve malfunction. Engine maintenance error message pops up, does not cool properly. Leaking ac fluid. Confirmed by dealership. Costs around 800 to 900 dollars to repair. Parts must be ordered ahead of time. No warning, just message showed up and will not go away. Doesn't let me see the speed I am going on the display since error message keeps popping up every minute.”

“Coolant Bypass Hose had to be replaced on a vehicle that only had 80,000 miles and only 4 years old. âEngine maintenance requiredâ displayed. Took to dealer and code popped up with an issue with the coolant bypass hose. Nothing occurred to trigger replacementâ¦it was a faulty part to begin with.”

“2020 Toyota RAV4 XLE purchased July of 2020. Just hit 35K miles and an "engine maintenance required" message appeared. The error message would not go away while driving and blocked the entire display screen. There is an issue with the Engine Coolant Bypass Valve that costs $700-$1000 to repair. The part and repairs are not covered by the 60,000 power terrain warranty.”
