Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2023 Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, Niro Hybrid, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, Soul, and Telluride vehicles equipped with a digital instrument cluster containing a 4.2" LCD screen. The instrument cluster may fail to display any information when the vehicle is started. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, "Control and Displays," and 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Dealers will update the instrument cluster software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 26, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC270.

“Drivers display panel not working, no vehicle information is available, it's a black screen. This is the 4th incident since new in 2023. Car can't be driven with nothing displayed.”

“The instrument cluster randomly turns off while driving which renders many safety features, including but not limited to the backup camera, inoperable. This issue was repaired by my dealer in mid 2023 when it was part of a recall. The problem seems to have been recently reintroduced possibly via an over the air software update.”

“Car was parked in a secured area on Friday and not utilized until the following Sunday. I found that the windshield had cracked about 1.5 - 2 feet. There is no sign of road damage such as a star or rock. The crack looks to have begun under the panel on the drivers side. This crack impedes visibility of the driver and interrupts heads up display. Full replacement is required”
