Hybrid system on other Wrangler years

Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2025, 2026.

What this problem usually is

These reports come from hybrid, plug-in and electric vehicle owners whose car put up a system warning and lost power, sometimes dropping into a reduced-power mode on the road. Others describe a car that won't charge, a high-voltage battery or inverter replacement, or a problem that turned out to be the ordinary 12-volt battery all along.

What got replaced

Is this a known problem?

The manufacturer has sent NHTSA 6 service bulletins or notices for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler that deal with this problem. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

What owners wrote

“The vehicle feels unsafe due to lack of acceleration when in electric mode, or when the car elects to switch from gas to electric on its own. The car will constantly fluctuate between gas and electric mode on the highway even when in cruise. This all stared happening after getting the latest recall performed (68C) on my hybrid Jeep Wrangler.”

Filed Sep 18, 2026

“I've had the Electric Coolant Heater (ECH) replaced three times in less than three months under the Hybrid Battery Warranty. The third repair included having to pay $853 to replace the ECV connector, which was not picked up by the Hybrid Battery Warranty, and the dealer required buying the entire harness just to get a new connector.”

Filed May 31, 2025

“Loss of power when driving with no warning. Jeep power cut out driving with D flashing. Safety risk was a car on the road driving with traffic then no power. Pulled over to the side to get off the road as far as I could. “Service Hybrid System” message appeared with blinking D. Started back up 20 minutes later. Dealer could not replicate.”

Filed Dec 10, 2024

“The fact that Jeep has a recall that is not repairable for what appears to be months now is completely unacceptable. I bought this hybrid for a reason. To drive it around town without having to use gas. Now I can't charge my Jeep or park it in my garage? Then calling customer service is a joke. No buy back or gas reimbursement?”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 1 of 72 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation. How reports land on this sheet.
