What owners wrote
“My 2017 Hyundai Sonata has a major oil consumption problem. The car does not leak oil. It burns oil average 3000 miles. I have to add 5 to 6 quarts of oil every time I bring it to the shop and ask about it they tell me Hyundai has a problem with one of their engines, I see the recall on other models, but not my model. itâs been ongoing for about a year.”

“Vehicle is burning oil. Have been using fully synthetic oil at regular 3000 miles. And have been increasing âburnedâ more oil before each oil change. Valvoline Instant Oil Change is the shop Iâve been going to for my oil serviced maintenance. My last visit I had 1 quart of oil left in my engine.”

“They car has high oil consumption. It only has 70,000 miles on it. It should not use a quart of oil or more every 1000 miles. Need to be put on a recall. Engine just like people have said about 115000 miles or more your engine will possibly blow,or sieze up. No car should have that much oil consumption. I change or have my oil change every 3000 miles or close.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 1 of 131 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
