Problem sheets

No single problem on the 2015 Honda Pilot has enough owner reports for a sheet of its own yet. The counts below still cover every complaint on file.

Is the 2015 Honda Pilot reliable?

The 2015 Honda Pilot has 108 owner complaints on file with NHTSA, less than half the median of 314 for 2015 SUVs on this site. Of the 13 Pilot model years since 2014, it has the 11th most complaints. Complaint counts rise with sales as well as faults, so read what owners report below before deciding.

At a glance

Next to other model years
Complaints filed before 2015 aren't in the files this site reads, so the 2015 count runs short and isn't compared with the model years next to it.
Top problem
Two problems run close. Brake wear has 11 complaints and airbag has 11, out of 108 in all. Brake wear tends to show up early. Of the 9 owners who gave a mileage for it, half were under about 6,000 miles and a quarter under about 2,000.
Crash, fire and injury reports
9 of the 108 complaints (8%) report a crash, a fire or an injury, a little above the 6% typical of vehicles on this site. Counted separately (one report can carry more than one), 6 reports mention a crash, 1 mentions a fire and 12 people were hurt. The most crash reports, 4 of 6, fall under airbag.
Recalls behind the top problems
4 recalls are on file, but no problem here has enough reports to set against them.
When owners filed
Filings peaked in 2019 at 15 (full calendar years only). In 2025 there were 10. So far in 2026, 7 more have come in. Filings on record start in 2015.

108 complaints is 2.6 times fewer than the median 2015 model on this site and 2.9 times fewer than the median 2015 SUV. Among the 13 Pilot model years here it ranks 11th for complaints. Counts follow sales volume as much as reliability, so a truck that sells 700,000 a year draws more reports than a sedan that sells 200,000.

Service bulletins for the 2015 Honda Pilot

Honda filed 85 bulletins and other notices with NHTSA that list the 2015 Honda Pilot. 11 of them deal with a problem owners have reported on this car. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

Engine failure. Closed aug 20, 2025.

        NHTSA summary
On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation. NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
