Recalls and investigations

One recall on the seat belts covers the 2018 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.

23V-158Mar 9, 2023
Seat Belts:Front:Buckle Assembly

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2020 CR-V, 2018-2019 Accord and Accord Hybrid, 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019 Insight, and 2019-2020 Acura RDX vehicles. A manufacturing issue with the front seat belts may cause the seat belt buckle channel to interfere with the release button, preventing the seat belt buckle from latching.

Risk and remedy
Risk: An unlatched seat belt cannot properly restrain the seat occupant during a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver and front passenger seat belt buckle release buttons or the buckle assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 18, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are NDA, QDB, BDC, MDD, LD9. TDF, FDG, ODH, YDI, ZDE.

Seat Belts · model years 2023 to 2024

Front seat belt assemblies may be missing the rivet that secures the quick connector and wire plate. Closed mar 26, 2025.

NHTSA summary
On April 4, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ24006 to investigate American Honda Motor Co.’s (Honda’s) proposed remedy for recall 23V-782 as well as scope of the vehicles involved. Honda issued recall 23V-782 on November 21, 2023, which concerns certain model year (MY) 2023-2024 Honda Accord, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Honda HR-V vehicles. Recall 23V-782 states that the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioner assemblies may have been manufactured without a rivet that secures the pretensioner quick connector and wire plate. Recall documentation states that seat belt pretensioner assemblies that are missing the rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury.Subject defective seat belt assemblies are installed as original equipment for both the driver and front passenger positions for the HR-V, but only for the driver position for the Accord and Accord Hybrid. The recall remedy for 23V-782 instructs the technician to inspect both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies and, if necessary, replace them. The inspection procedure requires the technician to utilize a pull force gauge to determine whether the subject component is missing the subject rivet and requires replacement. Parts requiring replacement are determined by whether the pretensioner quick connector separates from the pretensioner assembly while the technician is pulling on the seat belt. If no separation occurs, then the pa

What owners wrote

“My vehicle I of several people I know suddenly appears on the screen the symbol of the seat belt I the airbags turn off I took it to the dealer I they told me that it doesn't have it. Nothing keeps appearing and Honda is not responsible for something that can take lives in an accident either”

Filed Jan 7, 2024

“The seat belt has been buckled but disconnects once I drive. It has trouble connecting when I get in car. I have to push it in and pull for it to connect. I asked Washington Honda about recall and they said none were issued. I've never spilled food in it as I rarely have food in car.”

Filed Sep 28, 2023

“My car keeps indicating a supplemental restraint system issue then goes away I’m not sure what’s going on but I’ve seen several other complaints about this same issue with Honda.”

Filed Aug 23, 2023

“Supplemental restraint system error appears on dash unit, at first intermittently and now at all times. I am wondering if this could be related to a recall on seatbelts which apparently does not apply to my VIN but does to other 2018 Honda Accords.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 35 reports involved a crash and 1 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
