Recalls and investigations
One recall on the engine covers the 2023 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.

What owners wrote
“Vehicle shut off while driving. Dash codes said low fuel and low voltage. Tank was full and driven twice that same day for a combined 20 miles. No wrongs of failure”

“The vehicle lost power and went into limp mode on 3/3. I had it transported to a dealership and they said there was metal containments in the motor. I got it back on 3/17 and they said all was well but it never drove right. It broke down again on 3/20 and the said the throttle body was out. Why had they not found this issue before? This seems to be a recurring issue with this model truck.”

“My husband was driving on Plank rd/rt 219 towards Ebensburg PA when the truck started to buck and he turned off the main road and it shut down. It would not start just said low battery. I had it towed to the garage we use. They just confirmed it is the engine it locked up. I had the inspection for the recall and had the oil changed prior to this happening.”

“Truck shut off as I was driving. NO Warning. On a hill poor visibility Gratefully no injury. Required tow truck to dealer. Just received statement REPLACED FUEL CONTROL MODULE. Vehicle has 14000 miles Cost was covered by warranty but this should not have happened! Warranty does does not cover how shaken as I am a senior driver trusting this truck.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 0 of 73 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
