Recalls and investigations
One recall on the brakes covers the 2023 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport and 2023-2024 ID.4 vehicles. Certain bolts on the chassis, brake system and/or suspension (such as bolts for certain cross member, engine mount, control arm, subframe, rear brake carrier, etc.) of affected vehicles may not have been correctly tightened during the manufacturing process.
Risk and remedy
Remedy: Dealers will replace the bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 25, 2025. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 42HX.
When it happens
The middle half of failures fell between 2,800 and 20,000 miles, from the 8 reports that gave a mileage.

“Brakes do not work at random times. You go to stop and the brake pedal depresses all the way to the floor with the vehicle not stopping at all. This happens at random times, not all the time. The dealer said that they could not find anything wrong with it.”

Should you keep driving it?
This page can't tell you that. 18 of 39 reports involved a crash and 6 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
