Airbag light on on other Altima years

Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024.

What this problem usually is

This is the narrower sheet inside airbag problems for the warning light itself: an airbag or SRS light that stays on, or comes and goes, with no crash involved. The light is the car saying part of the airbag system may not work when it's needed.

Is this a known problem?

The manufacturer has sent NHTSA 1 service bulletin or notice for the 2015 Nissan Altima that deal with this problem. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

What owners wrote

“Air bag light will not go out. Looking to see if there is any recall for airbags. No accidents or impact to vehicle. Light came on about two weeks ago”

Filed Aug 27, 2024

“Air bag light came on about 3 weeks ago. Called dealership and they say no recalls. Says to bring car in and it will take 3 to 4 days to run diagnostics. I am a single car family and would need to get a rental for those 3 days. I am on a fixed income. Why 3 days just to run diagnostics”

Filed Aug 16, 2024

“Engine light & air bag light is on. The problem has not been confirmed. I have had the engine light fixed before and it still isn’t fixed correctly.”

Filed Sep 25, 2023

“Airbag light ON permanently all of the sudden on the dashboard. If the airbag system is not working properly it puts me and my passengers at risk of serious injuries if they don't work properly. No one has checked it since it appeared Aug 1, 2022. No warnings before it showed. Just one morning the light went on.”

Filed Aug 29, 2022

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 77 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation. How reports land on this sheet.
