Backup camera failure on other Ridgeline years

What got replaced

Owners who name the part that was replaced mention the camera (65 reports), the wiring or connector (59 reports) and the head unit or screen (15 reports).

Recalls and investigations

2 recalls on the electrical system cover the 2017 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.

What owners wrote

“The backup camera on my Honda Ridgeline was repaired under a recall but is now defective again. I hope Honda will investigate the previous recall repairs and issue another fix in the future.”

Filed Aug 17, 2024

“The factory radio with a 5” display in my 2017 Honda Ridgeline is having multiple issues. 1: Freezing up 2: The unit will restart multiple times while driving 3: Sometimes the unit will display a black screen but still function in the background. I thought these issues would go away after I had my local dealership perform the most recent backup camera recall repair.”

Filed Nov 5, 2023

“The rear backup camera has failed at 31,000 miles. The cause of the failure is appears to be a severed wiring harness going from the main body of the vehicle into the tailgate, where the camera is located. The harness design or routing of the wires is clearly defective.”

Filed Feb 22, 2022 · 31,000 miles

“Rear back up camera failed, due to tailgate wiring harness frayed due to normal use. Happened at about 45,000 miles.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 65 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation. How reports land on this sheet.
