What this problem usually is
This is the biggest drivetrain group on the site: a transmission that shudders, slips, hesitates or bangs into gear. It's the everyday version of transmission trouble, where the car still drives but doesn't drive right, and it has three narrower sheets of its own for jerking, hesitation and slipping.

There is a hard downshift or clunk around 6-13 mph, often experienced when slowing down and accelerating at slow speeds or from a rolling stop. Under certain conditions, the PCM A/T software settings may cause the issue.

“The car is not shifting properly and lags or hesitates when changing gears. This issue causes the car to jerk, particularly when transitioning from lower gears to higher ones. Additionally, there has recently been a noise coming from the driver's side wheel, although the brake pads are in good condition.”
