Recalls and investigations

2 recalls on the seat belts cover the 2015 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.

19V-590Aug 12, 2019
Seat Belts:Front

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. In the event of a crash, heat from the deployment of a seat belt pretensioner may cause a front seat belt anchor cable to fail.

Risk and remedy
Risk: A failed seat belt anchor cable cannot properly restrain the front seat occupants, increasing their risk of injury.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply a protective coating to the seat belt cable, free of charge. The recall began September 9, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S25. Note: This recall is an expansion of a recall 16V-875.

What owners wrote

“Front passenger door stopped closing on the 10th of July without any warning so I am forced into driving with a partially closed door tied with rope and I see that multiple people have filed a complaint about the same problem.”

Filed Jul 30, 2025

“When it gets warm outside, the seatbelt on the driver's side freezes in the resting position, so I cannot buckle up before I drive. It takes a while before I can use the buckle. This means I either drive unsafely to a meeting or wait for the inside of the car to cool down enough to buckle up to drive. I have let Ford know (case number: CXH-02550071-N4S4M4).”

Filed Aug 29, 2024

“The right rear passenger seat belt to my 2015 Ford Fusion stopped functioning several months ago. The strap that goes over the passenger's shoulder is stuck for reasons I am able to determine.”

Filed Sep 14, 2023

“After starting the car and turning on the seat heater Smoke started coming up from under the passenger seat smelling like it was burning.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 2 of 28 reports involved a crash and 3 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
