What this problem usually is
This is the narrower sheet inside airbag problems for the passenger seat sensor, the system that decides whether the front passenger airbag should be on or off. Owners here see a "passenger airbag off" light with an adult in the seat, or an airbag warning that comes on when someone sits down.

The driver's side impact air bag may be missing a weld at the side air bag housing.
The passenger occupant detection system (PODS) may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the front passenger air bag when the seat is occupied.
The door wiring harness electrical contacts may corrode, disrupting the electrical connection and delaying the deployment of the driver or passenger front side air bag during a side impact crash.
An incorrect driver and/or front passenger side impact air bag may have been installed.

“PODS system recall from 2023 was replaced, but now the same error message for the airbag not working for the front passenger air bag is now coming on again. VW dealership will not replace a second time, they are aware of the problem and have refused to help in any way. No passenger can be in the front passenger seat because the airbag does not turn on when the seat is occupied.”

“We received a recall notice in May regarding the passenger airbag and Volkswagen still does not have a solution yet.”

“Unable to drive our family car due to the ongoing passenger airbag recall. VW has yet to come up with a resolution, but it is not safe for us to drive it with someone in the passenger seat. This problem is very frustrating and the delay in a solution should be unacceptable.”

“The passenger air bag system is failing, the suggested fix is to not have a passenger ride in that seat. But since we have 4 kids in car seats in the back and only have one car we have no choice but for one of us to Always ride in that seat and risk injury.”
