The passenger occupant detection system (PODS) may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the front passenger air bag when the seat is occupied.
The vehicles may be equipped with an incorrectly manufactured air bag sensor, which can delay or disable air bag deployment when necessary.
During production, the air conditioning system drain tube may have been twisted, causing water to drain into the air bag control module.
In the event of a crash, the passenger frontal air bag may tear or not properly unfold during deployment.

“I have called the VW dealer several times to have the recall problem fixed and they keep telling me they donât have the parts. This is lingering for months. How do I get it fixed if thereâs no cooperation from dealer? I donât remember the month I was notified but it was months ago.”

“It has been 6 months since NHTSA 23V215 recall notice was issued and VW has not issued a fix. That is too long, since someone sitting in the passenger seat is at increased risk for injury.”

“I am experiencing the airbag issue described in the recall campaign. The passenger seat airbag warning light goes off constantly. Current "solution" is to not use the passenger seat until a repair can be made... however it has been nearly 6 months without any updates.”
