Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine:Hard Parts Internal/Mechanical

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.

Risk and remedy

Risk: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.

On December 13, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-023 to investigate allegations of engine failures leading to loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue; MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; and MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50 vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 6 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) and multiple early warning reports, with consumers reporting engine knocking noises accompanied by a loss of engine power while driving. The investigation identified bearing failures in certain vehicles equipped with the subject 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. ODI also identified early warning reports describing thermal incidents that occurred immediately after the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure. The failures were the result of a manufacturing defect in specific engine bearings (main, A-, C-, and L-link) or other engine components that may cause engine damage and potentially lead to engine failure. Engine failure can result in a loss of motive power event that can increase the risk of a crash. Engine failure might also result in a fire if internal components detach and impact the engine block creating a hole that allows engine oil to reach hot surfaces. In its April 2024, May 2024, and June 2025 responses to ODI’s information requests, Nissan provided 998 customer reports (including complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 1,107 warranty claims related to the allege

“The issue on the 2019 Infiniti QX50 it's not the motor that they had the recall on it's the VCR actuator it goes bad causes the bracket that's connected to rub against the side of the engine block causes it to have metal shavings and the car to go in limp mode and can cause an accident it's a common issue just put one in and already bad not even a year The original one made it to $47,000 mi before going bad”

“Engine seized on road due to bearing debris (confirmed by dealer photos), covered by recall 25V-437. Infiniti corporate denied repair, falsely citing âmaintenanceâ despite negligible sludge. No loaner provided for two weeks, stranding me. Laws Violated: 49 U.S.C. Â§ 30120 (free recall remedy), 49 CFR Â§ 573.6 (interim support during delays).”

“Engine made a pop sound while getting onto the freeway. It started to slow down and then I had to pull over and stop. Took to the mechanic and he explained there was metal shavings in engine. I needed to replace the whole engine.”
