Problem sheets

No single problem on the 2022 Honda Odyssey has enough owner reports for a sheet of its own yet. The counts below still cover every complaint on file.

Is the 2022 Honda Odyssey reliable?

The 2022 Honda Odyssey has 135 owner complaints on file with NHTSA, close to the median of 136 for 2022 minivans on this site. Of the 13 Odyssey model years since 2014, it has the 9th most complaints. Complaint counts rise with sales as well as faults, so read what owners report below before deciding.

At a glance

Next to the 2021 and 2023
The 2022 sits level with the years around it, at 27 complaints for each year on the road next to 24 for the 2021 and 25 for the 2023.
Top problem
No problem dominates. The largest, stalling, covers 19 of the 135 complaints (14%), and dead battery is next with 14 (one complaint can fall under more than one problem, so these overlap). Too few of the stalling reports give a mileage to say when it starts.
Crash, fire and injury reports
19 of the 135 complaints (14%) report a crash, a fire or an injury. The typical vehicle on this site sits at 6%, so this one runs well above it. Counted separately (one report can carry more than one), 4 reports mention a crash, 2 mention a fire and 22 people were hurt.
Recalls behind the top problems
9 recalls are on file, but no problem here has enough reports to set against them.
When owners filed
Complaints are still climbing. 2025 brought 27, the most of any year so far. So far in 2026, 28 more have come in.

135 complaints is 1.3 times fewer than the median 2022 model on this site and about the median for a 2022 minivan. Among the 12 Odyssey model years here it ranks 9th for complaints. Counts follow sales volume as much as reliability, so a truck that sells 700,000 a year draws more reports than a sedan that sells 200,000.

Inadvertent deployment of side air bags. Closed jun 25, 2026, led to recall 26V-227.

        NHTSA summary
On October 28, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE25018 to investigate complaints of inadvertent deployment of the side curtain and/or side thorax air bags. These complaints concern model year (MY) 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co. (Honda). Honda issued recall 26V227 on April 9, 2026, to address concerns of inadvertent side air bag deployment. In the recall filing, the company stated that “[a]s of April 2, 2026, Honda has had 130 warranty claims, 25 reports of an injury, and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017 – April 2, 2026.” Honda states that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side thorax and side curtain air bags, which may cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle encounters strong road impacts, such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. Honda stated that the SRS control logic for the second and third rows of seating contained an insufficient deployment threshold margin, allowing signal inputs to be misinterpreted as side impacts and causing inadvertent deployment of the side thorax and side curtain air bags. Recall 26V227 states that dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved air bag deployment parameters. Consumers received notice of this recall in late May 2026. In view of the recall being conducted by Honda, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (

No restart after auto start/stop engages. Open.

        NHTSA summary
On June 3, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE22005 after the agency received VOQs and several field reports concerning the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature on 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles. The complaints allege that the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 3.5L engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On January 6, 2023, Honda released service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. These service bulletins address the failure to restart issue in the 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles, as well as the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2019-2022 Honda Passport, and 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The repair outlined in the service bulletins is a two-stage countermeasure to remedy the issue. The first stage is a Programmed Fuel Injection (“PGM-FI”) software update. The second stage is only deployed if the software update fails to remedy the issue. The second stage, depending on the model and model year, consists of replacement of the starter assembly, starter relays, and a valve adjustment. Additionally, Honda extended the warranty coverage to 10 years with unlimited mileage for vehicles requiring the second stage component replacement. ODI continues to receive complaints of the AIS failure to restart, with many complainants alleging the campaign countermeasures had been completed.NHTSA has review
