Recalls and investigations

One recall on the windshield and wipers covers the 2015 model year. A recall on the same system isn't always the same failure, so read the defect text.

16V-219Apr 15, 2016
Structure:Body:Hatchback/Liftgate:Support Device/Strut

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured July 31, 2013, to January 16, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the rear lift gate support stays may corrode due to insufficient anti-corrosion treatment.

Risk and remedy
Risk: Corrosion of one or both of the rear lift gate support stays could cause a sudden release of pressure. If this occurs, the support stays may break off, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear tailgate stays, free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

What owners wrote

“The panoramic sunroof exploded while driving down the road. We almost crashed because it was so loud. It sounded like a gun shot. If the shade hadn’t been closed, we would have had glass rain down on our heads. I am contacting my insurance carrier today. There was no warning this would happen. The temperature at the time of incident was 52 degrees.”

“Something to do with Heat - the drivers side heat does not work but the passenger does. This affects the defrosting of the windshield - cannot defrost with cold air in the winter. I have found several discussion boards detailing the same issues with cost to fix is over $3K.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 25 reports involved a crash and 2 people were hurt. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.

File your own report with NHTSA. Complaint counts are how a problem gets an investigation.
