Dead battery on other Accord years

Report counts are for each model year on its own, so a newer car has had less time to collect them. Model years with too few reports of it for a sheet: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026.

What this problem usually is

These owners walk out to a car that's dead. Some find it drained after sitting only a day or two, some need a jump start every week, and some have had the battery replaced more than once without the problem going away. A good number describe the dealer testing the battery, calling it fine, and sending them home.

Is this a known problem?

The manufacturer has sent NHTSA 5 service bulletins or notices for the 2016 Honda Accord that deal with this problem. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

What owners wrote

“The speakers make sudden static noise randomly. Whether the radio is on/off or if the car is idle loud static will occur. It is extremely unpleasant and could cause a crash due to how loud and sudden and disorienting it is. Other service centers are unsure what is the cause. Have changed the radio, amp, alternator, and battery to no avail.”

“2016 Honda Accord EX-L coupe radio display panel went blank, including screen above main panel. There appears to be no power to panel, cameras thus I can not turn on radio, use Map which at times can be critical and all panel features are unavailable due to dead panel. The safety lane changing camera and back up camera do not work. Not sure what caused this. Fuses appear ok.”

“Computer failed. Dashboard lights keep going on and off. Checked by a mechanic and confirmed Battery sensor failure. It’s dangerous to drive the car when dashboard lights are on because it doesn’t respond normally to speed paddle or brakes and engine shuts down suddenly.”

Filed Apr 27, 2022

“I bought my car, used, in November of 2018 and had to have the battery replaced the following month. That battery stopped working and had to be replaced April of 2020. The same battery is now leaking and needs to be replaced again, now. When I checked the recall list for the 2016 Accord, it shows the batteries are on there; however, when I use the VIN, reports shows it is good. Please review.”

Should you keep driving it?

This page can't tell you that. 0 of 46 reports involved a crash. Owners who file are the ones who had a bad experience, and nobody checks their reports. If the problem affects steering, braking, power or a fire risk, treat it as a safety fault and have it inspected before a long or high-speed drive.
