What is your Yukon doing?

Each one opens a sheet built from the owner reports of that problem on the 2022 model year.

Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?

The 2022 GMC Yukon has 181 owner complaints on file with NHTSA, close to the median of 189 for 2022 SUVs on this site. Of the 13 Yukon model years since 2014, it has the 6th most complaints. Complaint counts rise with sales as well as faults, so read what owners report below before deciding.

At a glance

Next to the 2021 and 2023
The 2022 is a low point between its neighbors: 36 complaints for each year on the road, where the 2021 has 55 and the 2023 has 60.
Top problem
Two problems run close. Stalling has 54 complaints and engine failure has 54, out of 181 in all. A quarter of the 16 owners who gave a mileage for stalling saw it by about 33,000 miles, and half by about 46,000.
Crash, fire and injury reports
Only 1 of the 181 complaints (1%) report a crash, a fire or an injury, well under the 6% typical of vehicles on this site.
Recalls behind the top problems
stalling and engine failure all have recalls on the same system, and the same campaigns cover them: 25V-274. A recall on the same system doesn't always cover the failure owners describe, so compare its summary with the complaints.
When owners filed
Filings jumped in 2025, with 73 complaints, 4.9 times the next busiest year. So far in 2026, 73 more have come in.

When each problem shows up

Each bar covers the middle half of the mileages owners reported for that problem. A quarter saw it earlier, a quarter later. The tick is the median. Most reported: engine stalls or loses power while driving, 54 complaints.

        Median 2022 model here (78 vehicles)182
        Median 2022 SUV here (45)189

181 complaints is about the median for a 2022 model on this site and about the median for a 2022 SUV. Among the 8 Yukon model years here it ranks 6th for complaints. Counts follow sales volume as much as reliability, so a truck that sells 700,000 a year draws more reports than a sedan that sells 200,000.

Service bulletins for the 2022 GMC Yukon

GMC filed 1,168 bulletins and other notices with NHTSA that list the 2022 GMC Yukon. 77 of them deal with a problem owners have reported on this car. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

Loss of motive power due to engine failure. Open.

        NHTSA summary
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

        NHTSA summary
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues.
