What is your Suburban doing?

Each one opens a sheet built from the owner reports of that problem on the 2022 model year.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban reliable?

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban has 123 owner complaints on file with NHTSA, below the median of 189 for 2022 SUVs on this site. Of the 11 Suburban model years since 2014, it has the 6th most complaints. Complaint counts rise with sales as well as faults, so read what owners report below before deciding.

At a glance

Next to the 2021 and 2023
At 25 complaints for each year on the road, the 2022 runs below both the 2021 (33) and the 2023 (31).
Top problem
Two problems run close. Engine failure has 35 complaints and stalling has 30, out of 123 in all. A quarter of the 14 owners who gave a mileage for engine failure saw it by about 15,000 miles, and half by about 55,000.
Crash, fire and injury reports
4 of the 123 complaints (3%) report a crash, a fire or an injury, a little under the 6% typical of vehicles on this site. Counted separately (one report can carry more than one), 4 reports mention a crash, 1 mentions a fire and 4 people were hurt.
Recalls behind the top problems
engine failure and stalling all have recalls on the same system, and the same campaigns cover them: 25V-274. A recall on the same system doesn't always cover the failure owners describe, so compare its summary with the complaints.
When owners filed
Filings jumped in 2025, with 48 complaints, 3.4 times the next busiest year. So far in 2026, 46 more have come in.

When each problem shows up

Each bar covers the middle half of the mileages owners reported for that problem. A quarter saw it earlier, a quarter later. The tick is the median. Most reported: engine failure, knocking or rod bearing, 35 complaints.

        Median 2022 SUV here (45)189

123 complaints is 1.5 times fewer than the median 2022 model on this site and 1.5 times fewer than the median 2022 SUV. Among the 6 Suburban model years here it ranks 6th for complaints. Counts follow sales volume as much as reliability, so a truck that sells 700,000 a year draws more reports than a sedan that sells 200,000.

Service bulletins for the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban

Chevrolet filed 1,175 bulletins and other notices with NHTSA that list the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. 96 of them deal with a problem owners have reported on this car. Newest first.

Federal rules make a manufacturer send NHTSA a copy of any notice about a defect that goes to more than one dealer or owner. Most of these are service bulletins, the repair instructions manufacturers send to dealers. NHTSA generally leaves safety recall bulletins out of this file, and recalls are listed separately.

        NHTSA summary
On January 16, 2026, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ26001. This investigation was opened to assess the remedy effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. ODI has received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether that remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement. General Motors (GM) issued Recall 25V-274 to address concerns of engine failure in the L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issue. GM’s recall remedy for Recall 25V-274 consisted of two different repairs, either an oil viscosity change or an engine replacement, based on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. ODI continues to receive reports of engine failures after the completion of the recall remedy. To date, ODI has received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V-274, 473 of which involved an oil viscosity change and 26 a complete engine replacement. Additionally, ODI has received 191 reports of L87 engine failures in engines produced after the production period cited in Recall 25V-274.
